Several positions have opened up in my network and are begging for talented Software Developers.

We are looking for an ace software developer with 2 years of experience with web application development and/or in-depth knowledge of databases. Only those hungry for work with a true pre-funding startup need apply. I can promise you that you will be working with a great team which has already marked up one major release. A Bachelor’s, good communication skills and strong work ethic is a must. Your knowledge of scripting languages, object oriented programming and databases will be put to the test.

Leave a comment here, or e-mail me if your interested.

The BookEazy contact page.

LiveMocha, Greater Seattle area:

LiveMocha has set some pretty lofty goals and is looking for Developers who are familiar with web services and web applications. Since the startup is still in stealth, I cannot give away much except that the startup is very “web 2.0″ and is located in Bellevue.

Have a look at the LiveMocha careers page if your interested.

Also, have a look at CEO Shirish Nadkarni’s blog.

Rediff, Mumbai:

Sure, Rediff is hardly a startup - nevertheless, I’ll put down what all I have right now. Rediff is looking for an experienced technologist who is familiar with the management landscape (P & L, project management etc.) and has a strong background in web application development. The position is in Mumbai.

Drop me a line if your interested.

Humble Beginnings

March 18, 2007 · Comments Off

This week has been an incredible roller coaster ride for me.

When you start out, everything looks tiny and detailed. It is almost as if your staring hard at one piece of a 1,000,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and your wondering “Wth am I building?“. Here are some pieces from other puzzles that went down into history.

Google hardware circa 1999.

The first Google production server.

Google’s corporate history (official).

When we make a sale without having to pitch - there is a sense of elation and relief. “He snapped it up without batting a eyelid!” I found myself thinking.

We are also trying hard to not miss the gorilla in the mist. We see strange behavior and feedback all the time and think to ourselves - “Why do they do that?“.

The number one advice I can give to a salesman on the ground is to simply “Have a conversation with your customer first“. This is what I have learned over the last week by watching other good ambassadors of our service. The conversation ensures that your customer will remember your product or service and look it up later. It does not ensure a sale.

Here is some advice on Sales that I can promise will help you chart your course.

The Art of Rainmaking - Guy Kawasaki.

Finally, you can only plan to cover about 99.99% of everything that can go wrong. We are still learning and occasionally find ourselves dousing a few fires.

Here is the story behind Riya’s launch - Munjal Shah.

Booking movie tickets in Pune the eazy way

March 7, 2007 · 10 Comments

Do you love watching movies on the big screen, but just hate the idea of standing in line to book movie tickets at India’s crowded theatres and multiplexes? Have you ever stood in line and watched the box office window operator put up the “Housefull” sign just before your turn came up? Have you been cheated by a tout selling tickets in black for a premier show?

I have had the misfortune of being in every one of those situations! I can even remember the names of the movies in the last two exceptional situations :), which is why BookEazy is truly a personal project for me.

Since my return to India, I have been working with a brilliant team on enabling movie tickets online with the right model that will appeal to the average Indian consumer. I know what your thinking, no, you don’t have to pay online in order to book your tickets! Our goal is to make it easy for you to book your cinema tickets online.

All of last week we were at work enabling the technology and the content. At 10pm on Sunday, BookEazy went live! You can currently view theatre schedules for some of the popular multiplexes in Pune on BookEazy. In fact, there are currently 22 movies now displayed on BookEazy including Mira Nair’s Water, Black Friday, Nishabd, Honeymoon Travels, Nehle Pe Dehla and Nicholas Cage’s Ghost Rider.

Have a look at how BookEazy works and let me know if you would like to join the service to book movie tickets in Pune. We also have our list of Frequently Asked Questions.

Our promise is that you will never miss a good movie!

First flight

September 30, 2006 · 3 Comments

I made my first post on the BookEazy journal today with Anjali, here is an excerpt and the link to the original:

The BookEazy Journal: A leap of faith.

“For some years, I have been afflicted with the belief that flight is possible to man” - Wilbur Wright.

Of all the innovation stories of the past century, the first “controlled, powered, heavier than air flight” by the Wright brothers, is up there amongst the most inspiring. The Wright brothers were not scientists or engineers by education. In fact, they ran a bicycle repair shop and a printing business at some point. What made them extraordinary was that they believed that they could put together metal parts, wires and an engine and get them all to fly. In their minds, they had already made an incredible leap of faith.

Over a hundred years later, the rules have changed. The choice to fly safely and securely to our destinations is now taken for granted. I like to think that even today, every entrepreneur has a little bit of the Wright brothers in themselves. We all have made a mental leap to set ourselves apart from the rest.
